Better Housing Options

We need real community input because we have real problems. We need better housing options for working families, young people, and seniors. We need to work towards solutions for all concerns, from water quality protection to traffic mitigation. Teachers, firefighters, and professional community helpers need to be able to afford to live where they work.

Healthy Water and Air

Our greatest gift to our children is a healthy environment. Water is essential for everyone from families to tourism. We need enhanced sewar systems to protect our water sources. We need to have environmentally responsible infrastructure development, while fixing roads and reducing traffic. We need to promote a diverse energy portfolio and nurture our public lands.

Honor Our Veterans

Our veterans, including my husband and grandfather, deserve the honor and care that they earned. We must hold lawmakers accountable.

Housing Policy: Kelly Perry-Hyland

🏡 Housing Policy: Kelly Perry-Hyland Candidate for Suffolk County Legislature, District 8 The Problem Families across Suffolk County are worried. Young people can’t find starter homes. Seniors can’t find smaller homes to stay near loved ones. First responders and working families are being priced out. Too many houses are out of reach for the people who live and work here. My Plan We need homes that people can actually afford—without losing the character of our towns. Here’s how we can do it: ✅ Cut Red Tape Make it faster and easier to build homes people can afford, while keeping community voices at the table. ✅ Use Empty Spaces Turn old or unused county buildings into safe, affordable housing. ✅ Fix What We Have Support the repair and reuse of empty or run-down buildings. ✅ Smaller, Smart Options Encourage small homes like garage apartments or basement units—already working in other counties across the country. ✅ Better Transportation Fight for state and federal funding to improve roads, trains, and buses so people can live and work here more easily. ✅ Community-Driven Roadmap Hold community roundtables and create a plan together—neighbors helping decide where new homes belong. Why Me? I’ve spent my career solving tough problems with practical, fact-based solutions that don’t waste money. I’ll bring that same approach to housing. We can build a future where: Veterans, seniors, and working families stay close to home. Young people can start their lives here. Our communities remain strong and welcoming. 📣 I’m Kelly Perry-Hyland, and I’m ready to deliver results for Suffolk County.

Clean Water Policy: Kelly Perry-Hyland

💧 Clean Water Policy: Kelly Perry-Hyland Candidate for Suffolk County Legislature, District 8 The Problem Long Island has only one source of water: groundwater. It comes from rain and is stored underground in aquifers. For over 200 years, our water has been polluted by cesspools, septic tanks, fertilizer runoff, oil leaks, and industrial waste. 75% of Suffolk homes are not on sewers. Waste from cesspools seeps into our drinking water, rivers, and bays. Our local waterways—like the Great South Bay, Connetquot River, and Lake Ronkonkoma—are showing signs of stress. Algal blooms, fish kills, and nitrogen pollution threaten our health and way of life. Progress So Far ✅ In 2007, Suffolk passed a law to limit fertilizer use and protect our water. ✅ In 2024, voters approved the Suffolk County Water Quality Restoration Act to fund sewer and septic upgrades. ❌ But past Legislatures have turned down state and federal funding, delaying sewer projects our communities need. My Plan I will fight to make clean water Suffolk County’s top priority: ✅ Expand Sewers Where Needed Build modern sewer systems in the areas polluting our bays and rivers the most. ✅ Fix Failing Septic Systems Support programs to replace cesspools with advanced treatment systems. ✅ Protect Aquifers Pass stronger laws to reduce pollution from fertilizer, fuel tanks, and industry. ✅ Community Voice Make sure residents—not just developers—decide where sewer lines and projects go. ✅ Use Every Dollar Wisely Fight for Suffolk’s fair share of state and federal clean water funds—and stop turning money away. Why Me? I’m Kelly Perry-Hyland, a scientist, working mom, and military spouse. I know how to take on big challenges and find fact-based, practical solutions. Clean water isn’t just about today—it’s about protecting our future. 📣 Water is life. Veterans Policy: Kelly Perry-Hyland

🇺🇸 Veterans Policy: Kelly Perry-Hyland Candidate for Suffolk County Legislature, District 8 The Problem Suffolk County has the largest veteran population in New York State. We can do better to provide care and support for veterans benefits that they earned. Rising costs make it hard for veterans and their families to stay on Long Island. County leaders spend more time playing politics than solving real problems. My Plan for Veterans Our veterans served us. Now it’s our turn to serve them. ✅ Better Access to Care Fight to make sure veterans can get medical help quickly and close to home. ✅ Housing for Heroes Push for affordable housing options so veterans can stay in the communities they love. ✅ Support for Military Families Expand programs that help spouses, children, and caregivers of veterans. ✅ Stronger Partnerships Work with local VFW posts, veteran groups, and hospitals to connect veterans with resources. ✅ Cut the Red Tape Make county services easier to use and make sure no veteran falls through the cracks. Why Me? I’m a military spouse and a working mom. My husband served 22 years in the Air Force. My family includes veterans, police officers, fire chiefs, nurses, and teachers. I know what service means—and I know the struggles our veterans face. I’ve spent my career solving tough problems with practical, fact-based solutions. I will bring that same dedication to making Suffolk County a place where veterans and their families can live, work, and thrive. 📣 I’m Kelly Perry-Hyland, and I’ll always fight for our veterans.
